CCR Larue – Concert

There are some things that I probably don’t have to tell regular readers of this web site, as they all ready know them to be facts.  Things like Van is one heck of great guy, so am I, the sky is blue, REK is too cool for words and Ragweed puts on one great show.  This last part makes it tough for me to do my next review because we all know that CCR rocks the stage and many of those going to see them will be drunk as a skunk, but still having a great time.  I could describe how they played Boys for Oklahoma, but if you’re reading this review, I’m guessing you’ve seen a live performance of the Boys from Oklahoma and how everyone in the crowd does the whole thing with their arms to show how truly “way to long” it is.  I don’t have to tell you that Alabama is a great song and seeing the boys perform it live is a very cool experience.  Also I don’t have to tell you how when they perform Reckless Kelly’s Crazy Eddies last Hurrah the whole crowd goes crazy and shouts the lyrics right along with Cody.  No, you all ready know that, so I’ll have to think of something new to say, and if any of you really know me, you’ll know I don’t have to many original thoughts.

So with that in mind, something new was that CCR played Jenny.  You could tell all of us old school Ragweed fans because we knew all the lyrics to this early CCR classic.

Jenny came back from California with a new diamond ring

Jenny came back from California to pack up the rest of her things

Jenny went back…. To California

It’s always been one of my favorites, but doesn’t get played too much, that is, unless Van can meet up with Cody and make a personal request like he did one time at the Wormy Dog when we saw them play.  I’ll let Van tell y’all the story some time, as he seems to remember the night better than the rest of us that were there.  Just remember, he tends to tell lies when it comes to stories about me, so only believe half of the stuff he says, unless it’s good stuff, in which case it’s all lies.  They also kept with the early recordings when they played Hey Hey My My.  Good to keep it real, old school style, that’s how I roll, whatever the heck that means.  Another thing I liked that’s fairly new to CCR is in the middle of the set Cody did a quick acoustic set.  Just like the Tuesday nights at the Dog in Stillwater.  Whoa, two Wormy Dog references in the same paragraph, time to switch to a new paragraph, hate for everyone to think I’m a big drinker or anything like that.

Stony Larue was the opening act.  He is getting better each time I see him.  Of course the guy wearing a Pat Green shirt that was right in front of me was saying how great Jason Boland was playing tonight, which leads me to one conclusion.  Wearing a Pat Green shirt makes you dumber.  Anyway, he played One Chord Song, Forever Young along with other originals and covers of Merle Haggard, The Band (Best band name of all time, and so many, many, many hits, well ok, one hit but whatever) and also had a Jimi-esque playing of the national anthem.

Other bits of cool information from this concert are as follows.  It was at the same place that I saw Pat Green in one of my first ever reviews.  As you will remember, I was upset with the beer situation at the concert.  Let me just say, management did not take this bit of constructive criticism to heart.  At the end of the Stony’s set the line for beer stretched all the way to the Kansas City suburbs in one direction, and the OKC suburbs in the other direction.  I guess their motto was “We give fast service, no matter how long it takes.”   There was also a gal there that looked liked Daryl Hannah.  I wanted to take her home and put her in the bathtub to see if she grew a fin like in Splash.  But figured I’d get killed, or worse, if I suggested it.  So I let it pass.  As I was leaving there was a guy puking his guts out right next my pickup.  He must have got into line when they only stretched to Emporia and Ponca City to get his drinks.  Good to know someone got some liquid refreshment while there.  Taco Bell was already closed on my way home so I had to settle for cold fries and a burger from Wendy’s.  It’s not quite as satisfying as a run to the border.

So, what have we learned today:

-        A Daryl Hannah look alike likes to listen to the weed

-        Cody and the boys rock

-        Vans knows Cody and can request Jenny at anytime he wants

-        Stony, like a fine wine, is getting better with age

-        And The Cotillion still needs to work on it’s beer distribution system

Overall, I’ll give this concert 3 and a half out of 5 Wormy Dog stories.
